Michigan’s Governor Granhlom Goes Green

The Detroit News ran and article today about all the green improvements made to the State owned governors 8700 sq. foot house.  The residences annual electric bill is an amazing $10,900,  natural gas usage is $5,381 and a $4,276 per year water bill.

With utility bills like this they had to do something. Michigan’s government is currently has an aggressive campaign to rebuild the states economy through the development sustainable energy research and production.

$80 LED Light Bulb – What??

While searching for an energy efficient light bulb I stumbled on the LED Light Bulb. Now that seemed interesting , LEDs are definitely a low power device and in turn offer low heat. Wow what a great device, Eco-friendly and energy saving . What more could you ask for.

Not so fast, this little cost effective energy saving device will set you back $80. That means to replace all four bulbs in my dining room chandelier will be a total of $320. Read the rest of this entry →

Energy Saving the Negative Way

There must be a way to figure the costs of the wasted energy around the house. If there is it probably more involved than I really care to dig into. But common sense tells me that my family which consists of three pre-teen and teenagers leaving on appliances and lights much to frequently. I am sure this has to cost $30 to $50 dollars per month.
